Restore / Reburbishment
As the team responsible for the restoration of St. Macartan’s Cathedral, we have been working diligently on a project of great significance to both the local community and the wider region. Our involvement began with the urgent need to address the damage caused by weathering, rainfall, and climate change over the years. From the moment we stepped onto the site, we understood the responsibility we had to preserve this historic building for future generations.
The restoration process has been a careful and meticulous effort. Our work has involved extensive repairs to the stonework, roof, and critical structural elements such as the tower, spire, pinnacles, and rose windows. These elements required not just expertise, but also a deep respect for the craftsmanship that went into the original design. As specialists in stone conservation, we have worked to restore the building’s fabric with the utmost care, ensuring that both the exterior and interior are secured against further damage.
One of the most rewarding parts of the project has been the restoration of the Rose Window and the statues in the tower’s niches. These beautiful features have a deep spiritual and cultural significance for the community, and we feel privileged to be entrusted with their conservation. Our team has also worked at heights that few would experience, such as on the spire, where we carried out repairs to the weather vane. From these vantage points, we have not only seen the stunning views of Monaghan but have also gained a true appreciation for the importance of this cathedral in the fabric of the town.
Throughout this project, we have been grateful for the ongoing support from local, regional, and national sources. It has been a challenging but immensely fulfilling task, and we are proud to be part of preserving such an iconic building. The Cathedral’s future is now in better hands, and we are confident that our work will contribute to the safeguarding of its legacy for many years to come.
Built on solid foundations.
